About me
I’m a science nerd and I love working with words. For the past twenty years I’ve grappled with all kinds of science content for print, social media and websites, and I’ve interviewed everyone from patients to Nobel Laureates.
My career began in publishing, writing about early-stage medicines and reporting from pharmaceutical conferences in the US and Europe.
For nearly a decade I worked in the Medical Research Council (UKRI) communications team, editing its magazine and Annual Review and writing blogs, social media content and publications.
More recently I worked for the University of Reading, overhauling the university’s research website to bring in a fresh, storytelling approach and breathing new life into its research blog and social media.
I’ve been a remote-working freelance science writer and editor since 2020. These days, I work with science funders, publishers, universities and biotech companies to help them tell stories about science through case studies, press releases, and news and feature articles. What I most love is talking to scientists about their work and bringing their research to life for different audiences.
I have a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Sheffield and a Certificate in Journalism from Birkbeck College London.
I live in Reading, UK, with my husband, two children and our confused tabby cat, Pancake. When I’m not wrangling copy, I like hiking up mountains, and drawing and painting.
